Now that i'm old enough to feel ways about stuff, and sober and self-confident enough to have both things to say and the conviction to say them, i think that i'm going to cast away my livejournal[s] with the other detritus of my youth and start a grown-up blog.
Since i've moved in with my best friend R, i have been blessed with shared use of his functional turntable (my turntable has been broken for years but i can't throw it away and get a new one because - i shit you not - i drew a heart with my first love's and my initials on it and i'm too much of a sentimental bastard to get rid of it) and i've become quite proud of my record collection. My motto has been: "You better listen to this now, because you're only going to hear it if i play it for you"; but that's just downright selfish.
So my new approach is: "You better listen to this now, because i'm posting thorough, informative reviews and links to sample mp3s or torrents (for oink users at least) of out of print, hard to find, and rare material from obscure 80s and 90s emo and straight edge bands, as well as things that anyone should listen to" which is a lot more positive approach.
( This is a reprint of an article posted on my new blog. IWILL NO LONGER BE UPDATING MY LIVEJOURNALS, johnnyapathetic and co_operative, but i never really did anyway. anticipate content! )
read my new blog at http://positiveyouth.blogspot.com from now on.

6:52 pm - child actor "too high to die" according to police
|
Actor Osment faces pot, drunken driving charges
1 hour, 46 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Prosecutors on Thursday charged Oscar-nominated actor Haley Joel Osment, who famously saw dead people in 1999 hit movie "The Sixth Sense," with drunken driving and marijuana possession. ADVERTISEMENT
Osment, 18, faces up to six months in jail if convicted on the charges that arose after a car crash in suburban Los Angeles on July 20.
The actor suffered a broken rib and shoulder injury and was briefly hospitalized.
Prosecutors charged Osment with misdemeanor possession of marijuana while driving and with having a blood alcohol level higher than 0.08 percent, including a special allegation of having a level higher than 0.15 percent, said Deputy District Attorney Ed Green.
jakebone ...if you include my slanderous and totally bogus headline, this story is almost as good as the equally bogus story i heard that kel of kenan and kel is dead.

The new Invincible Werewolves demo is currently* called "Well Excuse Me, Princess!" and, although sloppy (even for me), I think it shows promise. Give it a listen here.
jakebone * i might change it to something about a space princess.

4:10 pm - This fucking guy...
|
John J. Miller author of the "Top 50 Conservative Rock Songs", after being temporarily eclipsed by perennial favorite Ann Coulter with the release of her latest expulsion of putrescent bilious tripe, is back again to make a bid for being the biggest right-wing assclown in America. Check it out.
Highlights: "Super hip" band POD, Suicidal Tendencies' pro-war message, Bob Dylan's anti-protest song, Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers' nostalgia for a simpler America, the "PRO-LIFE DEATH METAL" of SLAYER, and like 45 Rush songs.

6:37 pm - steeples galaxy
|
so, steeples fucking destroyed last night. if you don't believe me, go look at ross and bobby's basement. one of the walls is tilting in, the support beams are at surrealistic angles, and the concrete and bricks are cracked and broken. they're the best screamo band in the city, and now the crusty kids know it, too. iron lung also contributed ably to the destruction...chaotic and really fucking loud two-piece crusty hardcore.
afterwords, daniel, robox, sherman, and i met el randito at queen of sheba for ethiopian. it was incredibly tasty and filling, and despite how heavy and greasy the meat dishes were, it was no where near as bowel-destroying as thai or indian. however, the claim in the menu that eating with your fingers is a difficult art is 100% true. it was fun, but i think it will be a while before i can take a date. the traditional serving-everyone's-dishes-on-one-big-platter was actually really cool. when you order something, there's enough for everyone to have a serving, and everyone eats everything. it's awesome. definitely recommended.

thanks to Oink!, i have downloaded twenty albums in the past 24 hours.
Cult of Luna and Mouth of the Architect are the artists you've been looking for to fill out your ISIS-esque post-metal cravings. Because you have them, I have them, and they're only going to get stronger.
The new Broken Social Scene album and EPs (okay, so they're from 2005) are also really awesome. You should watch the video for "Shoreline" on youtube here.

Perk of having Justin Kuntz inhabiting your living room:
He'll wake you up so you can watch the Nintendo press conference at E3.
All I really need to say about Nintendo, I've already said: YOU. CAN. NOT. FUCK. WITH. NIN. TEN. DO.
But I'll also say: Final Fantasy CC sequel for the Revolution. Twilight Princess to be released on the same day as the Revolution for GC and Wii separately. Star Fox DS.
OH BOY, EXCITETRUCK: DRIVE A BIG DAMN TRUCK.

tonight was a double feature of totally awesome movies.
Movie the First - I know that no one will believe me about this; HOWEVER: the third matrix movie is actually awesome and totally worth watching. I hated the second one, too. I know, it sucked. But the third one totally redeems that by being a total star wars ripoff chocked to the brim with intensity, melodrama, epic-ness, and bitchin' action scenes. So, don't let the fact that the second one sucked prevent you from enjoying the third one.
Movie the Second - Class of 1984. I've been trying to see this one with Randy for a long time, and he finally got it on DVD (the VHS broke when we tried to watch it). As far as I'm concerned, there's a new greatest punxploitation movie of all time.
Also, Justin Kuntz is going to be living on my couch this month. I helped him move out of the dorms today, which was tiring as hell. This promises to be an awesome living arrangement which will recall our glory days of yore, and we shall call it Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise.

4:11 am - ...having a breakthrough day.
|
my car works. now that she's back from the dead, i'm thinking of rechristening her. hopita, quizas? probably "esparanza" will be her given name, and i will call her hopey. cuz my car is kinda fucked up and crazy, but i will always love her.
ryan and i went and played softball tonight in the park in ski island. well, one of us would hit and the other would field, and then we'd switch off. i've been getting a lot of exercise, so i feel good.
i also feel good because after almost getting respiratory viral super death pox plague, i supersaturated myself with vitamins c and b12 and all kinds of crazy herbal snake oil. well, only the echinacea is really snake oil. vitamin c and b12 are, you know, proven to do, like, specific, measurable, real things and not subjective vagaries that sound good in a parade article.
i hung out with randall heyer and madalyn tonight. we watched a movie that reminded me how much i loathe generation x and all they stand for, and also how everything that generation x thought was really cool is in fact totally, totally lame.
nevertheless, in the interest of staying positive, i will end this post on an up note. with that in mind, i will say to you all, with all due profundity, that de la soul rules.
